It is a milestone when the First Presidency names the new First Presidency and Prophet of the Church. This happened Tuesday at 1:00. It seems a long time coming compared to past presidencies. President Nelson passed away right before October's General Conference, so time was needed to plan his funeral before the presidency could be called and set apart. We knew already, because of the plans God has set in place, that our new prophet would be Dallin H. Oaks. He is 93 years old. If he lives as long as President Nelson, then he will have a few good years to lead us. He called President Eyring and D. Todd Christofferson as his counselors.

Happy Birthday to Dan and Doyeon this week. Doyeon's birthday is today (the 19th). She's 14. I can hardly believe I have so many teenage grandchildren.

We were able to spend a little time in Logan with Crista, Matt and the kids early in the week. Grandpa took the three girls to the movie ET at the Utah Theater (an old theater owned by Michael Ballam). I stayed with Crista and enjoyed the boys.

While Roy went on a day ride (Saturday), I stayed home, took a fun bike ride (over to Nick's house and back) and then went to Finn's football game. It was exciting when the game went into overtime and Finn's team came out victorious! I took Finn, Ila and Ollie home (Ollie wouldn't be in the picture) so AJ and Adrienne could go to the BYU game. They're Ute fans, so they were probably disappointed when BYU won by 3 points. The three kids only stayed at my house long enough to eat pizza because they were anxious to get home to watch the game on TV with their friends (all but Ila who would have loved to stay and play games).
Roy's Ride (Delle, Utah): by Roy
A ride buddy couple (Brian and Amy Davis) decided to cruise through a muddy puddle which there were alot of on this ride. I wish that I had gotten a video of the action, I should have made them do it again. A sheet of muddy water went completely over their machine. I didn't do it, I should have, but I didn't want to clean up the mess.
The results, you can't even tell what color his SxS is. It's black.
It was a desert ride around the Delle, Utah area. This is the area between Tooele and Wendover.
We climbed to the top of a mountain where our ride leader showed us an aviation arrow, it had been placed during the 1920's for aircraft doing the mail route so that the planes would be able to navigate. There were no radio navigation systems at that time. These arrows were placed about 10 driving minutes apart
The desert in the dugway proving grounds area.
I think that there was dust on my phone lens in this picture. I'm with Darrel Miles my friend and neighbor as well as Don Price photo bombing in back.
Lunch time with my tuna fish sandwich. I finally took off my sweater at lunch as it had warmed up enough. It was a beautiful sunny day with basically no wind.
Dave Schoss (our club president) in the foreground and Moses in the background. Dave has been on almost all of the rides this year which is pretty much every weekend. Too many for me! He's 75 years old. There was another couple in their 80's.
This is the ride group for the day.
Back to Catharine:
I taught Gospel Doctrine Sunday. We talked about the correct name of the Church and its importance. I invited people to share their experiences with making this change over the past 7 years. We also discussed sacrifice and what we've been required to sacrifice for the Lord. The thought that stood out was that sacrifice generally does not feel like sacrifice. I pointed out that the definition of sacrifice is to give up something good for the hope of something better. We also discussed tithing. One person mentioned that she gives her tithing to show her faith and trust in the Lord and then doesn't worry one minute about what her tithing is spent on. We talked about how it takes faith to pay tithing, but paying tithing then builds our faith. As usual, I felt that I had learned so much from studying and preparing the lesson (a small sacrifice of my time that pays great dividends).
Sunday evening we had the family together. It was great fun to be outside roasting hotdogs and marshmallows.

Ruby, Ila and Yuna. I had to take this picture twice. Once with the beautiful trees in the background, and a second time closer to show their beautiful faces. |

| After everyone was done with hotdogs and s'mores, Cub hung out by the fireplace all by himself. There were some treats on the table, so I think he was helping himself. |

Ollie, Adrienne and Gunnar. Gunnar said his mouth was full, but I think he was purposefully making a face. |

| I think he liked the jello. Crista said that he at least liked squishing it. |
Towards the end of the evening, Cub dumped out the Duplo blocks--onto Foster's head. She, understandably, did not like that and went crying to her mother for comfort. I told Cub he needed to hug Foster better. He gave her a hug, then cemented the apology with a kiss.
There were a few dinner attendees who managed to avoid getting their picture taken. Avie, Jieun, Sara, Camden, Greta, Bridget, Yuli, Todd and Hyeji (although Hyeji's in the background of Cub and Foster's hug). Some of these kids were playing/hiding out underneath the porch where the hot tub is. The blinds were down giving them the perfect fort. I think I caught everyone else. Effie was sick and had to stay home. We'll catch her next time.
