My Testimony

My Testimony: When I was young, my father was always sharing with me his favorite scripture passages.   He would often challenge me to memorize them.   The first I memorized was  Psalm 23, The Lord is my Shepherd.   I was probably 10 years old.   My dad’s love for the gospel was apparent in everything he did in life.   He later challenged me to memorize this section of 2 nd Peter, chapter 1: 15  Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. 16  For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17  For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18  And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 19 We  have therefore a more sure word of proph

The Joseph Smith production is over, so my Sunday evenings should have cleared up, right? Wrong.  I still have quite a few responsibilities as the Stake YW President, and today has been and will continue to be very full.  This morning we met with the stake council, and as usual, it was an uplifting meeting with the focus being on repentance.  We have been asked by our prophet to repent daily--but what does that mean?  It is more than just a few words in our prayers--"please forgive me for all my sins"...it is a commitment to try and be a little better each day.  We all make mistakes, we all sin, but one mistake doesn't mean it's all over for us.  Bro. Wilcox' talk was referenced--"Worthiness is not Flawlessness."  This made the discussion even more interesting to me since I've been asked to substitute teach a Relief Society lesson next month on that very talk. So, what is the definition of worthiness? D&C 10:  67  Behold, this is my doctrine—wh

Last week--after posting the newsletter Last Sunday evening, we didn't have any plans for Mother's Day and Roy's birthday.  We were being a bit lazy, hoping someone would fix dinner for us.   The problem was, almost all of my children are mother's, too, and they wanted a bit of pampering as well.  Lucky for us, Nick decided to have us over for homemade pizza, and Sara even had a cake.  It was a delicious chiffon cake that she served with strawberries.  We had a great time and we loved spending time with the four children (and the parents, too, of course). Catharine watching Roy put out the candles with his fingers.  I'm not sure this was a good idea in front of impressionable children.  On the right: Nick, Roy, Camden, Effie, Catharine, Ori and Avi (how did Sara get out of being in a picture?) Stake Youth Conference coming up next month For the last several months, we have been planning a youth conference/activity with the YW presidency, the YM presidency and the yo

Happy Birthday #64 to my sweet husband of 42 years.  Roy was able to do something he loved for his birthday this year.  He and Crista signed up for the Front Runner bicycle ride and rode 64 miles together.  I think they had a great time and felt that they had really accomplished something when they finished.  It took a lot longer than it has in previous years because they had the wind against them the whole day.  They both looked pretty beat when they arrived home, and Roy was half blind in one eye from the dust and the wind irritating it all day, (luckily, it's almost back to normal this morning), but they both said they had a great time.  Even after a long day, Roy was willing to go out for an evening with some new friends.  He was a good sport to go, since neither of us had met my friend's husband before.  We kept it simple by eating at a food court and visiting and then just walking around the mall.  It was fun.  We don't do a lot with people outside the family.  I thin

Skipping a week in writing a letter really tests my memory.  My sabbaths have been so busy with YW meetings and orchestra practice.  I am going to start with today and work backwards as that might be the easiest way to remember everything. I am in charge of refreshments afor today's meetings with the youth.  I made one pan of cookie bars, but decided that they way the boys eat, I would need another batch of something.  Adrienne has been asking me about grandma Clyde's buttermilk cookies; since she has a YW activity of her own that must include sharing something about her ancestors.  Nan found the recipe for us and I made them last night. It is a simple recipe and a simple cookie, but they're good, especially with the taste of nostalgia that goes along with them.  This morning I found that because of sickness in the family of our ward member that leads our stake senior chat, the senior chat is cancelled.  I still have the youth committee meeting, and I'm bringing refres
