For youth conference this year, one of the activities was for the youth to see the movie "Witnesses"--the story of the witnesses of the book of Mormon.  I was unable to attend because we were in Iceland, but I heard great feedback from the youth.  The Stake Young Men President had a connection with the producer of the movie, Russell Richins, and he and one of our bishops contacted him and asked him to speak in our stake (the bishop was cousins to the speaker's wife).  He agreed and asked if he could bring Paul Wuthrich along--Paul had played Joseph Smith in the movie.  Right after we had arranged the speaker, our Stake YM President was released, so I carried on.  Soon there was another YM president in place and since I was now thoroughly in charge, I assigned him refreshments.  This was pretty easy as we'd already decided to have Fat Boys, all he had to do was order and pick up.   The night before the fireside I went to Deseret Book and purchased the movie, so I would

End of Summer

Last Sunday night--after I finished the newsletter, Roy and I drove down to Genola, UT to celebrate Nan and Evan Theobald's 50th anniversary!  I used to think people who made it to their 50th were super old, but now I'm less than 9 years away from that milestone.  We enjoyed visiting with the Theobald family.  Tara had planned the party and put it on in her yard, but I think all of her siblings helped her with the food and decorations.  We played a game that they had played previously at Jenna's wedding luncheon (Jenna is Tara's daughter).  Evan and Nan each held two shoes--one of theirs, and one of their spouse's.  When Tara asked a question such as, "Who wears the pants in the family?" everyone would hold up either a pink or blue sign showing who they thought it would be, then Evan and Nan would hold up a shoe to show their answer.  Needless to say, they weren't on the same page very often.  Nan wanted to play a couple of games so that her grandchild

Labor Day and 9-11--Day of remembrance

This past week we remembered 9-11.  In Dave's letter, he included memories from his kids of where they were at the time of the attack on America. This caused me to reflect also.  I remember walking into our bedroom where Roy was getting ready for work.  The TV was on and the first tower had just been hit.  We were stunned.  We knew that this was a tragic day for America.  Many lives were lost, and also many personal freedoms were lost--especially when traveling.  It used to be much easier to fly--I did it often with all my children, but Roy could accompany me all the way to the gate, and when I arrived home he could meet me at the gate.  Elise has to maneuver all her children through security and onward.  It's hard to believe that Caitlyn was only about 18 months old at the time this happened. We used to be able to take water, too.  Most of the time we can buy a water, but flying home from Chile in 2015--I think it was at least a 6 hour flight, we bought our water after we got
