Fun-filled Fall

My brother Dave had a scare last week.  He had a heart attack in church.  He wasn't feeling well, so he told Becky he was going to head home, but he could barely make it to the couch in the foyer.  A grandchild (or a great grandchild) went out to help him to the car and saw that he was struggling and informed Becky.  911 was called.  When the doctors looked him over they couldn't determine what was wrong, but a stress test later in the week showed that he had indeed had a heart attack.  He's had a stent put in (his artery was 95 % blocked) and is on the mend.  Jeff Cook had this same thing happen to him several months ago and he's much younger.  He is doing fine now.

Jieun and several of her students entered the art competition at the State Fair and they all received recognition.  Jieun has been focusing on portraits, which I would think would be very difficult.  She won 2nd place.  Doyeon took home a first place ribbon for her shark.  She said she used pastels and pencil.  I feel badly that I didn't make it to the fair to see the exhibit.

In commemoration of Sept. 11, we had a national day of service on the Saturday the 13th.  Roy was on a ride in Beaver, so I went over to Centerville Jr. High and spent the morning helping with a couple of projects.

A couple of pictures from Roy's Beaver ride with the NUATV Club:  He's definitely found a way to see the hidden beauty in Utah.

On Sunday, the 14th, the family came over for dessert at Caitlyn's request.  She had made cake with specific coloring inside to let us all know the gender of her baby.
As you can see, it's pink!  We'll be welcoming a baby girl to our family in late March.

The Rasband and the Anderson families waiting to hear the news.

On Tuesday evening, the NUATV Club went on a night ride up Farmington Canyon.  It was close enough that we just hopped in the side X side at our house and headed out.  The idea was to get to the top, then take some back trails, then head back to the top in time to see the sunset.  We made it just as the sun was disappearing.

The Layton temple is in the middle of this photo.  Can you see it?

We had tickets during the week to see "Little Shop of Horrors" at CPT.  We invited a couple that we met on our trip to Israel, Rock and Tracy Allen (Tracy's my fourth cousin).  Sadly, we forgot to take a picture. The play was a lot of fun and they had a few adds to make it more Halloweeny.  We will probably get two more tickets to see the other cast because Jordan's sister, Ariana, is one of the singers and has a pretty big role in the play.  We would have changed tickets to see her, but then we'd have given up our front and center seats.  Speaking of Jordan--he's singing in the Saturday night choir for General Conference, so make sure to look for him.

Ila had a game a few hours before the play started so Roy went over to watch her for 20 minutes before we had to get ready to go to our dinner and show.

Cub in  grandpa's bike helmet.  He's down to watch everyone in his family play sports.  He'll for sure be ready when it's his turn!

When Roy and I went to the Shakespeare Festival in August, we saw all the plays that had been in the season--originally.  Since we bought our tickets early, they had added another play, but there was no way we could fit it into our schedule.  If we could have stayed through Saturday, we could have seen it, but we had to clean our church building Saturday morning, and we didn't have a place to stay anyway.  Everyone down there raved about it, so, Friday, we drove all the way to Cedar City to see the matinee of the play "Dear Jack, Dear Louise."  It was worth it!  It was about the playwright's parents who courted during WWII through letters.  It reminded me of my parents who mostly courted through letters as well.  One big difference is that this man was a doctor who was eventually sent oversees to help the wounded.  He was in danger a lot of the time.
We had a nice dinner at Rusty's restaurant and the next morning took a long bike ride on Cedar City trails.  We lunched at The French Spot (a restaurant we love), and then headed home.  We wanted to be home in time for a dinner our stake was hosting for the missionaries serving in our stake.  We made it with over an hour to spare.
The dinner was nice and it was fun to hear what all of the other people did in their missionary positions.  The Stake President and his wife were there.  I asked him afterwards if anyone ever threw a dinner to thank him for all his hard work.  He laughed and said, "No, we just get yelled at."  Of course, he said it with a smile.

While we were at dinner, Hyeji went to her first high school dance.  I asked her to send me pictures. She said she had a great time and I think she really likes the boy she went with.  Time goes by so fast.  She was just a little baby not so long ago.

It's that time of year again--the primary program circuit has started.  Elise sent us a text maybe 10 minutes before her ward started.  Luckily, our church is later so we were able to watch.

Elise started off the program accompanying the children's choir with her ukelele.  I didn't know she'd been practicing on it.  I expected the guitar.

We had the Dan Rasband family for dinner Sunday evening (the 21st).  After dinner I gave the kids gummies from my Halloween assortment.  They had fun making faces.  Doyeon wasn't feeling well, so she didn't come over.

I like to end my letters with a thought, but it's been all I can do to get this letter done, so I won't delay any longer.  Next week I'll try and think of something worthwhile to share.
