Labor Day Weekend

Most of the time we miss Gunnar's birthday because we are almost always out of town Labor Day Weekend, and his birthday is the last day in August. This year, the Green's met us at the Gorge for a very short holiday (at least for them, they couldn't get here until all sports were played on Saturday, and we all leave tomorrow, late afternoon).
Gunnar's birthday breakfast: waffles, peaches and cream.

 The picture I took shows the best smile Gunnar would give me (he just turned 15.  I have no other explanation).

Caitlyn came with us for her only trip to the gorge this summer.  Dallin is home taking care of their baby dog.  I am not a dog person so--no dogs at either of our homes.  I don't think Caitlyn realized what a sacrifice a dog would be.

Our first order of business for the weekend was a side X side ride and then, kayaking on the lake.  It was a little overcast and a little cold, so we didn't feel like taking the boat out.  Because of the breeze, the kayaking was a little difficult, so we kept it short.

Side X side scenery.  You can see it was overcast, but very beautiful.

We should've taken the picture of Caitlyn, instead of us.

Our 3rd activity was our annual trip to the rodeo.

At the end of the rodeo, the horses all run out together to show everyone how healthy and happy they are.   This isn't the best video, but it was an inspiring sight.  I also love that they say a "cowboy prayer" at the beginning of the rodeo. This year they honored the fallen Tremonton police officers.

We had a leisurely boat ride on Saturday, then resting, reading and paddle boarding.
 It was a beautiful day if a little chilly.  We used the paddle board and everyone dipped in the water at least once, but no one was with us who wanted to ski or wakeboard this trip (Green's weren't here in time for this outing).

All of our grandkids are back in school now (at least those old enough to go).   Todd was the holdout, his pre-school didn't start until the last week in August.

Frosty's not old enough for school, but she did start dance lessons.  She loves it!

Foster and Elijah (no, he can't pull himself up just yet, but he can stand for a while).

We went to church in Manila today.  Phil said that they tried to go in Bear Lake but it was so crowded the sent him and his whole family home and told them to come to a later meeting (they ended up just doing "home church."  In Bear Lake they have meetings with signs indicating "visitor's meetings" because they have so many visitors in the summer.  The Manila ward was crowded, but nothing like that.  We even managed to sit in on a side pew up front by an older lady (we were a little tight, but it was fine).  Usually Roy and I stay for 2nd hour, but today I was falling asleep since I didn't sleep well the night before.  We used Caitlyn's pregnancy for a 2nd excuse to go home.  Both talks were on different scriptures in D&C 93.  The first was on putting your house in order, and the 2nd was on learning line upon line, precept upon precept.  They were both good talks, but I had trouble keeping my eyes open.  My lesson for gospel doctrine next week is on D&C 94-97.  I was hoping I could use 93 as it's one of my favorites, but since it was 5th Sunday last time (and the bishop told the gospel doctrine teachers to teach as usual) that section was already discussed.  I love section 93.  It's another witness to me that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and that Jesus Christ lives and speaks to us today through his prophets.

D&C 93: 1 Verily, thus saith the Lord: It shall come to pass that every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name, and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am;

And that I am the true light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world;

 I'm also starting institute this week teaching Foundations of the Restoration.  I've read through part of the first lesson on the apostasy (there are 2 lessons each week), but I have much more studying to do.  This time it looks like I'll have about 15 students (if they all show up) all from Central America.
