Final "Summer" trip to the Gorge with the Dan's Family

School is in full swing now.  Bridget (below at right) had her first day of Kindergarten.  Hyeji had her first game to show off her cheerleading skills, and Foster is sleeping soundly in her crib.

After a wonderful week at the Shakespeare Festival (last week), we only had two days to catch up: Roy had to work and I had to pick the garden, do some organizing, get the house straightened up, etc. before leaving again for our Labor Day Weekend trip to Flaming Gorge.  It's a great weekend to go because the water is still warm enough to swim and the town of Manilla puts on a great rodeo, boat light parade, and fireworks.  We had some chores to do at the cabin, too, so we headed for Wyoming on Wednesday evening.  I admit, it does feel like we've hardly been home all summer.  I did have an opportunity to skate on Wednesday before we left, and I still know how to do it (even though I haven't skated much this summer), but it did feel a little awkward and it definitely wore me out.  Out of the three older women I skate with, only one is still skating: the 82 year-old finally hung up her skates; not because it was too hard, but because she has too many unhealthy relatives depending on her to care for them.  She doesn't have the option of accidentally getting hurt.  Another lady in her 70's has some hip problems.  The last one is also in her 70's and told me Wednesday that she's experiencing some dizziness and vertigo, so she doesn't know what her skating future looks like.  If it's only me, I for sure won't skate in Ogden anymore, and I might be done altogether (I don't love skating in Bountiful like I used to because of some issues that have been going on there for a while).
I spent Thursday organizing the cabin pantry and some other cupboards while Roy worked in the garage and yard.  However, we'll never miss an opportunity to play while we're at the Gorge, so around 5:30 we went for a ride in the Talon up to an overlook of the Manilla area.

In the picture at right: we had a great view of Sheep Creek (pronounced crick)

These pigs were at the beginning of the geological loop.  We generally see cows and sheep, but this was a first for us up here.  We also saw yaks, but they were too far away from the road to get a picture.

Dan and his family arrived late Thursday night.  They didn't get here in time for the rodeo, so we went without them.  We thought we were leaving plenty early to get good seats, but the stands were already getting full when we arrived at 6:40.  We found a seat towards the back in the 4th section over.  We had a pretty good view except that I had to look over a man with a cowboy hat.  Roy traded me places when I told him, "I wish he'd take his hat off."

The boat parade:  It really is a lot of fun to see the effort some of the boaters put in to decorate and light up their boats.  Some of them looked better when it was light enough to see the details.

Sunday, Jieun, Yuna, Roy and I went to church.  Roy and I stayed for Sunday School.  We know enough people that it almost feels like it's our ward.  We like the gospel doctrine teacher and wanted to hear her lesson.  One thing that I picked up from the lesson was this (and it's me that needs to hear it--I'm not preaching here).

"[Pride] is manifest in many ways, such as faultfinding, gossiping, backbiting, murmuring, living beyond our means, envying, coveting, withholding gratitude and praise that might lift another, and being unforgiving and jealous."
This quote is from Ezra Taft's Benson's famous talk, "Beware of Pride."
