Baby Shower

We got home from Florida and I found this tomato in our garden.  It looked so perfect but I was sure it would taste terrible from being frozen.  It must have been protected just enough, because it was really good.

After Andy finished residency and started receiving a full doctor's salary, he ordered a Tesla.  It finally arrived and they made the trip to Atlanta to pick it up.  It took three pictures to capture the whole family because Beverly wanted to be in a picture all by herself.

I am not very social, but I have a few friends from the pool who are getting together for lunch and even a movie on the occasional less expensive Tuesday.  My friend Tami likes movies, but her husband doesn't.  My other friend, Lori, is a divorcee.  I go along, but Roy likes movies and he even likes chick flicks, so I feel a little bad going without  him.

At lunch: Catharine, Tami, Jane, Lori, Donna and Judy (yes, Judy is intentionally hiding).
On the right is Jane.  She's only come to my class once, but she's Tami's friend, originally from the Phillipines.  Now she's my friend, too.

Baby Shower

Adrienne and Jieun threw a baby shower for Jieun, I know Sara Crista and Caitlyn helped, too.  They all made delicious food. I stopped at the gluten-free bakery in Bountiful because we now have Eliza, Charlotte, and Sara's sister Mimi who are all celiac.  Charlotte got stuck at a Relief Society event (she's the president), but the gluten free goods were mostly eaten up.  The shower was a lot of fun.  Adrienne's house is a great gathering place for friends and family and we all enjoyed ourselves.  It was so fun seeing our extended family.  I was able to introduce Nan to a few of my grandchildren.  She knows who they are, but they don't know her.  I told Gunner she only lives about a half-mile or so from his house.

Nan and I got talking with some of our nieces and nephews.  Somehow we got on the subject of picking up kids from events.  I said, "kids don't have to wait very long for their parents anymore...I remember sitting on the lawn for what seemed like hours for my mom to get home and let me into the house."  I think parents are more worried about their children's safety and they don't feel comfortable making them wait.  This brought up a memory (more a memory of a story that was told often in my home) of Dave coming home from high school on a cold day to a house that was completely locked up.  After waiting for a bit, and checking all the doors and windows, he finally got too cold to wait anymore, so, he broke a window and let himself in.  I didn't remember the next part of the story, but Nan took over and said that she got home a little bit later and went around to the back door to get into the house.  It was the door with the broken window.  She screamed because she thought someone had broken into the house.  She ran back to her friend's father who had brought her home and told him what had happened.  He went with her to the house and rang the bell.  Nan said she was scared until Dave actually answered the door, because she could see a "tall man" peering out.  Apparently he was standing on the stoop.  Neither of us knew the rest of the story.  Did our parents get angry.  I'm betting, no.  Dave, I know you're reading this, so let me know what happened!

Here are some pictures from the shower:

Everyone was very generous with Jennie and she received some beautiful baby gifts.

From right: Sara, Mimi, and YJ (spelling is wrong, I know).

Two success stories:

Ori's permanent teeth are coming in faster than her baby teeth can come out, so the dentist had to help her out.  She said they gave her 20 shots--she counted every one! The dentist removed four teeth.  Hyeji, at only 12 years-old, already has her braces off.  Look out boys!

Crista has recently finished the Aragon series of books.  She recommended them to me and told me a little about the books.  She said that the main character was trying to decide if he needed a god to be a good person.  When she told me that, I responded that we need God to know what is good.  We can see in our world today all of the confusion about what is right and wrong.  Our prophets and apostles lead us in the right direction so that we don't say that "evil is good and good is evil." (Isaiah 5:20).  She agreed but said it took her a little longer to come to that conclusion.
Before we had this discussion, I was studying Elder Uchtdorf's talk from October's general conference, Jesus Christ is the Strength of Youth.  He states, "There's a lot of confusion in the world about what is right and wrong.  Truth gets twisted to make evil seem good and good seem evil."
"But when you earnestly seek the truth--eternal, unchanging truth--your choices become much clearer.  Yes, you still have temptation and trials.  Bad things still  happen.  Puzzling things.  Tragic things.  But you can manage when you know who you are, why you are here, and when you trust God."

Then he asks, "So, where do yo find truth? It is contained in the gospel of Jesus Christ..." Elder Uchtdorf quotes the Savior:  "I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."  The whole article is worth your attention.Jesus Christ is the Strength of Youth
