Memorial Day; Uncle David Salisbury's funeral; Gabriella Yuli Rasband's baby blessing

This year for Memorial Day, we actually spent it visiting cemetery's and visiting with relatives.  Roy's family had a great reunion up in Heber Valley.  We met Roy's aunt Gloria and uncle Mike and many of his cousins at the cemetery in Midway, Utah.  We spent over an hour  at the grave with the cousins and Gloria sharing their memories of their parents, grandparents, and Aunt's and Uncle who are buried there.  Then we went over to a church in Heber that had a bowery and had lunch.  It was great visiting with all of Roy's cousins.  There was a 2nd cousin there with his family, also.

Four of my kids were able to come (Nick and his family were sick, Jennie had to work, and Elise is still in Augusta--until Tuesday) and thirteen of my grandchildren were there.  There were only two other small children there who were 2nd or 3rd cousins to Roy (None of Nan Theobald's kids or grandkids were there).  The kids had a great time being with each other and playing.  At one point Gloria had her two granddaughters, Alexa and Caitlin, tried to do organized games with the kids, it was kind of funny, though, because they didn't really have any games planned, they just had a couple of plastic balls--they thought the kids could try and keep the balls up in the air.  If it had been balloons, this might have worked.  I suggested they divide the kids into two groups--the big kids and the little kids, and do something with the ball that was age appropriate.  This was a bad idea.  Pretty soon Dojin had gone all the way to the other side of the field alone, and one of the girls had to go after him.  He was really sad.  Why,? because he wasn't put in the big kids group.  Gloria also had the great idea to give out chocolate candy bars to all the kids.  This was also a bad idea--it was a hot day.  I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I think Ruby put her candy bar in the car for later, then she ripped open the candy bar right as we were leaving the church, and the melted chocolate just sprayed all over her.  It took them a while to get her cleaned up, and the mess in the car was another story.  I told Crista that years ago, when we had driven our mini van from Atlanta to Utah, we were able to go to the Clyde Reunion--then held at Maple Dell Scout Camp.  Nick won the coloring contest and recieved a big box of crayons.  We put the crayons in the front seat of the van so they'd be there when it was time to go home--well, we learned the hard way that crayons are a lot worse than chocolate!

After the picnic, Crista and Matt met us at the Heber Cemetery so we could find Grandpa Reed's and Grandma Teeny's (Rasband) grave site.  It took Roy and me a little while to find it.  We managed to locate it right as Crista and Matt made it to the cemetery and got out of their car.  It was fun looking at all the names on the gravestones.  There were many Clydes--probably distant relatives, and many McDonalds also in our line (on my mom's side).  On Dad's side we found Mongomery's.

Because Mike and Gloria were in town, Roy was able to take Mike on an adventure.  He showed them the Pony Express Route where we had taken some of the grandkids camping.  Mike grew up in the desert, so he loved seeing the wild horses, antelope and other sites.  He can't move a lot--he's recently had some surgery, plus his back is hurting since he fell on his face a few months ago.  He only got out of the truck once, but  Roy said he seemed to have a really good time.  Later they treated us and Nicole and Brad to dinner.

Thursday I had to fast in order to have tubes inserted through my nose into my esophogus.  The test was a PH probe and a motility study.  I'm hoping that they can find out what is causing my cough.  First the nurse inserted a tube that was about  1/8 of an inch in diameter, it had copper sensors on it.  Then she gave me teaspoonfuls of salt water so they could watch me swallow on the monitor.  I couldn't swallow between swallows, if that makes sense, so I had to swallow the water, then stick my tongue out to prevent me from swallowing until they gave me another teaspoonful.  They did this 10 times.  Then, they pulled that tube out and inserted one that was more like 1/16 of an inch thick.  I was hoping I would feel it less than the first, and I guess technically it wasn't quite as bad, but they left this one in for 24 hours.  I had to press buttons when I coughed, when I ate, when I finished eating, when I was lying down, and when I got up.   I've had some uncomfortable medical tests in my life, but this one took the cake.  I know others have had worse tests, and this one was only painful when they were putting the tubes in--after that it was just extremely annoying because I could feel the tug of the tube in my nose (especially when eating) and it felt like I had an object in my throat that I couldn't dislodge.

I won't get the results for at least a week.  If a weak muscle or reflux is not causing my cough, then it is
either in my lungs, or in my mind. I'm hoping neither of those.

Roy took the Trailer up to Flaming Gorge Friday to prepare for our camping trip with Elise, while I waited to get my tubes removed.  Roy makes this drive every year in order to be able to take the boat up later.

Saturday Roy and I went to the funeral of my uncle David Salisbury.  He was the last one left of all my mom's siblings and husbands/wives.  He was married to my mom's sister, Carol.  They lived just up the street from us, but were in a different ward (after I turned 13, when our ward was divided).  Christine and I played with his daughter, Sally, who was in between us in age.  It was a nice funeral. Sadly, sometimes the only time you see cousins is at events like this one.  We stayed after and visited with several of our Clyde cousins.  Then Christine and Steve, Nan and Bruce, David and Roy and I went out to lunch to La Cai Noodle House.  It was delicious, as always, but the company was best.

We had the spouses jump in for this picture. Added are Roy,

Crista ran into several of these cousins at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville when she visited grandma and grandpa Cook's gravesite.  They all told me, "We met your daughter..." Of course, Crista had already told me.

GabriellaYuli Rasband received her baby blessing on Sunday, June 6, 2021.  Many of the family joined us in our ward for the blessing, and afterwards came to our home for lunch.  Jieun made bulgogi and rice, a traditional Korean meal.
