Congratulations to Hyeji for making the Cheer Team
on her first year of High School!

We only have two March birthdays. Crista and Todd. Happy Birthday, you two!  The Vance
Family were able to get away for the weekend, to Legoland.

Todd turned four--celebrating his birthday in Legoland this year.

I had the fun experience of going to the play Sound of Music this week with Adrienne, Ila and Caitlyn.  I'm sad I didn't take a picture afterwards.  I kept running into friends and Ila was tired.

From Roy: The weather has been very wet and cold in February and March.  As some of you may know I am the Vice President of the Northern Utah ATV Club.  I have a Pioneer 1000-5 and a Talon 1000X.  They have been a lot of fun.  Our club had a ride scheduled just North of Wendover, Nevada.  We went on Friday afternoon, had dinner with some fellow ride friends at a Mexican Restaurant which was fantastic.  The storm front changed direction so it was pouring rain yesterday morning (Saturday).  We met up at the staging site and surveyed the weather and radar, etc. It looked like it was going to continue raining well into the afternoon so we decided to bag it.  I think that Catharine was super glad that we didn't go on the ride with the miserable weather.  We'll reschedule for another time.  My club will have several rides this year scattered around the state.
I am excited for conference which is coming this next weekend.  Catharine and I have always enjoyed watching all sessions of conference, it's super uplifting.  When we lived in Georgia with little kids at that time we couldn't receive conference on our home TV.  There was a neighbor that lived a few miles away that had one of those big satellite dishes, so they were able to receive conference.  They were an older couple and had a large house.  So, for each spring and fall conference, they offered us their basement to hang out in with our young kids to watch conference.  We would bring over art and other activities to keep them busy.  It became a wonderful tradition for us and for the older couple, the Platts.

I hope that each of you have the opportunity to be spiritually fed as well.

I know that the gospel is true, it brings me a lot of solice to my life.  I am grateful for our Prophet Russell M. Nelson, and the wonderful guidance that he gives to me and my family.

Catharine: Yes, I was glad the ride was cancelled, it was so cold and windy.

The NUATV club.  You can't see it, but it's raining hard.  I'm taking the picture, but most of the women stayed in their cars.

In Phil's letter this morning, I learned that Tristan's son, Ryan, was diagnosed with type I diabetes and has been sent home to be monitored.  Tristan flew out to Seattle when she heard of the diagnosis.  She knew her son needed an advocate. The Nielson family is familiar with this since their son, Grant, also has the disease.  So please add Ryan and his family to your prayers.

Steve Christensen found this fun journal entry from my mom, dated January 1, 1962.  My mom didn't leave many writings behind, but the few things we do find, give us little glimpses into her personality.

I am way behind in my housework and ironing—this I never catch up
I worked on Primary lesson, only to learn at 3 o’clock no primary today.
Bruce and Glenn went to mutual. David and Nana had piano lessons. David really studied today, and I believe he really will get in and earn his horse.

Vernon is busy with inventory [at Utah Service]
I ironed and washed [almost] every day
Catharine is getting to say so many words and is now talking in 3 and 4 word sentences. She is such a loving baby and is bringing so much joy to our family.

Vernon and I went to Kiwanis installation tonight, [it was] quite long.
Our children just hate to go to bed. It seems at 8 they get new energy and are wide awake and it is about 10 before we get them settled down
I went to school to assembly on helping Bruce register for next year for high school. It doesn’t seem possible that he’ll be in high school next year.

I worked as fast as possible until tonight. My leg hurt so bad. I couldn’t stand to put my weight on it. The pain was so bad.

I decided not to have Marilyn Ashcroft help me. Bruce worked for Vernon. David and Glenn played in Botanin Basketball. We watched a family show on T.V. Vernon cut Philip’s and Dave’s hair. Philip is such a dear boy but seems so unhappy lately. I’m going to have to spend more time with him.

We spent a very enjoyable day—All went to church. Sunday school and fast meeting. Tithing settlement – we paid $1,403. We visited Aunt Jen and Dad.
Bruce and Glenn worked on the personal fitness merit badge. I’m looking forward to having them receive their Eagle Scout badge. All worked on lessons.
