The week of The 4th of July

Time for the Jacksons to head back to Georgia

Sushi dinner made by the very talented Jieun Rasband for me and Roy and Elise and
her family and of course Dan's whole family, a couple of nights before Elise returned to Georgia.

Roy and I tended the kids while Elise took Max
to the play Newsies.  This was our last night
to cuddle with Harvey.  He was a pretty good
cuddler when he was tired.

Grandpa took the Jacksons to the airport.  They were here long
enough that the kids were ready to go home!

Max lost one tooth on our boat, and apparently
another right when he got home.

Jieun and Sara tried out the new splash pad in Bountiful.
  Camden and Yuli liked it!

4th of July: Happy Birthday to our nation (and to grandpa Verl)

“Our original Constitution, adopted in 1787, had what our distinguished [former] Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, herself a member of our most prominent minority, called some ‘birth defects… Nevertheless, it was our best hope for freedom and self-government. It remains so. Let us be united to defend the great principles of the United States Constitution and to use our precious freedoms to further the work of our faith and to serve our fellow men…. Almighty God … has given us our inspired United States Constitution. He acted through the wisdom and courage of our Founding Fathers.” --President Dallin H. Oaks

We are so greatful to live where we live.  We live in a great country, and a great state and city. We live lives that are extremely blessed in every area. I know this, but I also know we have a lot going on in our country that we aren't happy about--the following picture shows what I mean:

So, we'll keep praying, following our beloved Prophet and the rest of the prophets, seers and revelators that guide us.  As we follow them we will be protected and watched over and we'll be able to have peace in our hearts and in our homes.

The Fourth of July Fireworks Show

Every year Matt and Crista host a 4th of July Fireworks show.  This year they made it a fund raiser for the Logan police.  With a lot of people wanting to defund the police, Crista and Matt wanted to make their opinion clear.  They raised almost $2000.  Someone donated hot dogs and chips, Crista and Matt cut watermelons, and then Matt put on a great show.  Matt even dressed up as Gandalf (I guess there's a part in the movie where Gandalf sets off fireworks).

I missed Effie taking a bite of her hotdog, but notice how clean
she still is.  I thought with her sitting on the ground she'd be a mess.

On a less happy note, AJ was driving his Tesla and was hit when someone completely disregarded a
red light.  Thankfully, he wasn't hurt except for his hands (one was worse than the other). He thought they would be okay, but I encouraged him to go get them looked at.   It turned out his left hand was broken.  The doctor told him it would heal, but it would likely take several weeks.  He can do what he wants with it--as long as he can handle the pain.  We are grateful the accident wasn't any worse than it was.

After Aspen Grove, the 4th of July and several other family activies, Roy and I decided we needed a restful weekend in Flaming Gorge, so we drove up (just the two of us) on Saturday and stayed until Monday evening.  It was relaxing and COOL.  It was great to get out of the heat for a minute.
