Shakespheare Festival

First, a few more kids head back to school.

Logan's school district started a week later than Davis County, and Davis County started 2 weeks after the Augusta, Ga. kids.  Once Bridget gets into Kindergarten next week, all the kids will be back to school.

Todd.  I'm pretty sure that Todd knows how to smile naturally--just not for the camera.

Shakespeare Festival

We go every year to the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City.  We used to pick and choose our plays, sometimes skipping them because we didn't think they sounded interesting, and other times because we'd seen the play before.  After interacting with other festival goers, we would always hear, "Did you see ___? it was so awesome..."  And we'd regret that we hadn't; so, we started to see every play offered each season.  That's seven plays.  Then to top it off, we sometimes see a play that is from a new playwright where the actors sit in a circle and read the play.  The actors are so professional, you kind of forget there is no staging for the play.  This year we saw one of those.
These are the plays we saw (for my personal notes): Much Ado about Nothing; Silent Sky; The 39 Steps; A Winter's Tale; Mountain Top; Henry VIII; and The Taming of the Shrew.  My favorites were the first two, with the third one in the list coming in close.  The acting was superb in all of the plays, but in the last three I wasn't as fond of the content.  A Winter's Tale is less well-known, and I was glad to add it to the list of plays we'd seen.  Nan asked me if we got bored of the plays.  The answer is "no," but we are pretty tired by the end of the week.

After finishing up at the festival and having a needed rest on Friday afternoon, we headed down to St. George to celebrate with James' family and his new family at a dinner for the groom and bride.  It was fun to meet Emma Jacobson (James' bride to be) and her family, and it was especially nice to spend time with Bruce and Barbara and Dave and Becky.  We didn't have a lot of time with Christine and Steve, but it was great to see them, too.

Saturday at noon we met at the Red Cliffs Temple in St. George.  It's an absolutely beautiful structure.

I can't take credit for the photo (it was on line).

This is the best picture that Roy got of the couple coming out of the temple.

It's always great to be with my family

Pretty much immediately after James' passionate kiss, the two separated to
greet their friends and family members.  You can see how happy James is.

After the wedding we went to lunch with Dave and Becky and Bruce and Barbara.  We were soon joined by Adam and Heather Cook and Eliza and Ben Christensen.  Eliza and Ben were a nice addition, though we didn't know they would be coming.  It was the lure of the gluten free restaurant we chose.  We visited for a couple of hours and it was great.  Afterward, Roy and I went to a movie to kill some time before our evening event (since our hotel was a good 50 minute drive away).

Unfortunately, we missed the reception for James and Emma in St. George (we'll hit the one in SLC).  We had to trade one good option for another. Instead of the reception, we went to an event for Roy's side of the family.  Gloria and Mike Toomey's 60th wedding anniversary (Gloria is Roy's mom's sister).  The dinner was beautifully presented and delicious.  It was especially fun catching up with some of Roy's family.

Not the best picture, but this is Al Rasband (brother to Roy), Gloria in her new dress obtained on a shopping trip to Las Vegas (it's hard to find nice dresses in St. George), Shirley Pyper, a cousin, and Lisa Rasband (her back is to the photo).

Roy and Catharine on the left; Kathleen Carlile on the right.  Four of us were sharing all the desserts on offer.  My favorite was the triple chocolate cake.  I wish we'd taken a picture of the appetizer plate.  I could have had only appetizers for dinner and been perfectly happy.  There was burrata, large shrimp, smoked salmon, crackers and cream cheese, and a few other delectable items. The dinner (sea bass and beef medallions for me and Roy) and visiting went on until about 9:30.  Nichole had done a video of her parents lives, including their exotic vacations.  It was fun to see pictures of her family through the years.  We drove back to Cedar City to stay the night in the Air B&B that we'd stayed in all week

Crista sent us this darling picture of Zack allowing his brother Todd to drive him around.
