August Activities

There are a few items of interest this week:

Our Georgia grandkids are the first to get back to school.  As you can see from the signs, Mav is starting 2nd grade, Max 5th, and Bevy, kindergarten.  I think Beverly looks the most excited.

Later in the week I went to a family reunion--the Grant Cook family reunion.  In attendance: Debbie and Albert Bori; all of Debbies children, most of her grandchildren; Debbie's three living sisters, Laurel (and her husband, Dave), Darlene, and Margaret.  It was fun to catch up with a few cousins.  Darlene and Laurel are quite a bit older than I am, so I've never known them well.  Of course, I got to know Debbie when we lived in the South.  Albert told me that we are his favorite (I think he meant that we're his favorites out of all of Debbie's family 😀.  We had a good time visiting and then drove home through a horrendous electrical storm with torrential rain!

Saturday was our chore day.  We worked in the yard, the garage and in the house.  At 11:30 I picked up Avie to finish a project she and I had started previously.  Then Avie helped me crush blackberries to make jam.  She was a good berry crusher.  She stirred the berries until they were boiling, and then I took over.

Roy and Catharine with the sister missionaries

One afternoon we had lunch at Everbowl in Farmington.  Roy introduced himself to these missionaries and discovered that the girl on the left is Erin Foster, Dee and John's daughter (from our ward in Georgia).  They were great friends.  Roy sent John this picture on Facebook and John said it made his day.  Of course, Roy treated them to lunch, but he would have treated them even if Erin wasn't John's daughter.  We are trying to meet up with Phoenix Sanders, Mary Canale Sander's daughter.  She is serving in the same mission.  Mary wants us to go meet her.  Mary joined the church when we lived in Georgia and we helped fellowship her and her two sons.  Her conversion and change in lifestyle was nothing short of a miracle.  Erin told us she would tell Phoenix that we have been trying to contact her.

We met Jennie, Foster, Caitlyn and Dallin for pizza at Ti Amo's.  Since we haven't been there in a while we didn't know that it had changed ownership again (the new owner is the 4th owner).  The prices had increased quite a bit (just like everywhere), but the pizza was bigger with more cheese and more ingredients.  We were very happy with the food.

It's my week to teach gospel doctrine. I've loved learning more about Paul the apostle over the last several weeks.  It's amazing how much I learn since I'm trying to be prepared to teach what I'm studying.  We can learn a lot from Paul about being bold and fearless in sharing our testimonies.  He was also a humble man.  It couldn't have been easy to accept that you had been wrong in the way you'd been "zealously" serving God for many years.  He changed and went forth fearlessly defending the truths that he knew.
