Labor Day Weekend

Flaming Gorge: Labor Day Weekend

Roy and I were able to get away on Thursday, Sept. 1 to get a head start on the holiday weekend.  Rather than taking the boat out on Friday, we just took a kayak and a paddle board down to the lake.  It was hot enough that the cold water felt wonderful.  Roy doesn't often paddle board, but I took a picture to prove he really can do it.

The Rodeo

Nick and Sara arrived in time for dinner on Friday evening.  I fixed homemade macaroni and cheese and it was a hit with Nick's picky eaters.  After dinner we went to the Dagget County Rodeo.  The kids were bored some of the time, but once they realized they could walk around and watch at the railing,  everyone had a great time.

Nick, Avie, Ori, Camden, Catharine, Effie and Roy;  Camden, Avie, Ori.  Avie and Ori had a minute on the fan camera.  Avie saw and raised her arms up and smiled, but Effie was oblivious.

At one point all kids 11 and under were invited to come down on the field and chase the calves around. Camden especially loved it.  Nick is in the blue holding Camden's hand on the left.  On the right is grandma interacting with Camden (he loves me!)

Sara in training.  She pulled Nick wakeboarding which is something I've never wanted to learn to do. Nick and Camden at right.

Catharine with Camden.  I learned quickly that it was a lot easier to row while standing up.

Two funny stories:  Nick was swimming (just before we were going to head off the lake) and he felt something bite him on the bottom-twice.  He reached down and grabbed this little critter (crawdad).  He thinks there may have been a bigger one, too because it sure felt like it was bigger😂.  At right: Effie found this piece of art (junk) in the water where we were swimming.  She adopted it as her puppy.  She was so sad when Sara told her to throw it in the dumpster, so Sara pacified her by taking her picture with it.

Hiking near Spirit Lake

Sunday afternoon we went on a beautiful hike.  It took quite a while to drive to the hike, so we only hiked about 1/3 of the trail.  Roy and I definitely want to go back, it was so beautiful.

We took this picture of Nick and Sara's family.  I thought the lighting was great.  This is the one picture that Avie was looking at the camera

Camden climbed on this log all by himself and you could tell he was pretty proud about it;  Ori and Camden at right.

Effie, Avie; Catharine (with water bottles in her pockets), Camden and Avie.  They all wanted a turn standing on the stump.

Ori.  Sara was attempting to make it look like she was floating.

Our last two grandchildren to start school this fall.  Avie and Ila.

Grandma went on a walk with the Dan Rasband kids Friday night.  You can see we had a great time.  The only problem is, we started too late and the mosquitoes came out.  We all had a least a bite or two.
